Katariina Martikainen

Position
Technology Officer
Motivation for applying to this position

Social features, co-creation, and AI - that’s what I’m excited about! As a potential new board member I am looking forward to giving back to the community that has inspired me through the years. Having worked for many years as a software developer, team lead, and scrum master/product owner, I see this as the perfect opportunity to apply my technical and leadership skills to enhance the alumni experience.

Beyond professional contributions, I want to stay actively engaged with my fellow alumni, fostering meaningful connections and strengthening our network. Our alumni events always leave me energised and full of new ideas—I want to bring that same inspiration to others by making our digital platform more dynamic, interactive, and valuable to the community.

Vision and plans for the community

My vision is to build on the foundation set by the current board while introducing new innovations that enhance engagement and accessibility. Specifically:

  • Complete and enhance our new alumni website – I want to ensure that the new platform is not just functional but also enriched with social features, such as seeing which of your contacts are attending an event or discovering alumni with shared interests or same location.

  • Co-create with the community – I believe in collaborative development, where alumni and students can contribute ideas and even help shape the platform itself. This approach ensures our digital presence truly reflects our needs.

  • Leverage AI for smarter engagement – Let’s bring the "I"-Innovation in EIT Digital to our own ecosystem! From AI-powered networking recommendations to faster building of features, there’s untapped potential to make our platform more intuitive and useful.

Why people should vote for me

I bring a blend of technical expertise, leadership experience, and deep community engagement that makes me uniquely suited for this role:

  • Leadership in tech – I’ve worn many leadership hats from career mentoring to managing priorities, and improving processes. I know how to drive projects forward, making sure they deliver real impact.

  • Strong technical background – With years of experience as a full-stack developer, I understand the complexities of web platforms and I am familiar with the tech stack of our alumni portal. This means I can effectively guide external developers or even jump in and work hands-on if needed.

  • Passionate about community – I know many of you personally, and I genuinely want to hear your ideas and feedback. This is our alumni network, and your voice should shape its future.

Beyond attending multiple Colivings, annual meetings, and local events, I have been actively volunteering in the alumni community since my graduation, contributing in multiple ways:

  • Organized Coliving in Sardinia as part of the official Coliving committee and organized local events in Stockholm, fostering strong connections among alumni.

  • Helped with building our new website together with the current board.

  • Created engaging spaces beyond tech, such as improvisation theatre workshops and salsa and bachata dance sessions, because a strong alumni network is all about shared experiences.
