Christian Siman

Position
Secretary
Motivation for applying to this position

As an AI language model… no, I’m just kidding. :)

The previous two years I’ve been part of the master school, I’ve met some of the awesomest people I’ve ever met in my life. Most of them were at an EIT event or an alumni event. I can’t even recount the number of incredible friends I’ve made along the way. This is my motivation. I want to be a part of the people that keep making it possible to find these connections. If I got these opportunities, I want to ensure everyone else does too.

I’m actually also managing the master school community Discord server for current and future students, and what I do for it is very close to the role attributions of a secretary. Not just that, but I really get a kick out of organizing things. Plus, I’m also managing my own startup, and after reading the role description… Yeah, I feel like I’m a strong fit!

I’m going to be honest. There’s also a personal motivation here: I love to meet people. Being the secretary seems like it puts me in the perfect position to reach out to, talk to, connect with, and (hopefully) befriend a lot of people. Why? Because it’s fun! I find learning about other people’s stories deeply interesting. So, yeah, I’d also love to talk to you! Wait, is it illegal to drop my LinkedIn here? Eh, here you go /in/simanchristian

Vision and plans for the community

In my first year in the master school, we didn’t actually have a local alumni node. We were desperately missing events to go to. So, we just organized our own. It was pretty crazy, but absolutely worth it. Anyway, what that taught me was how important it is to have some form of organization going on a local level with literally just one purpose: bring people together.

Pizza nights, karaoke nights, brunch Tuesday, ice skating Wednesday… whatever!!! I’d love to facilitate any of these in every node. Nobody gets left behind, right? At least that’s how I see it.

Secondly, let’s get everyone involved. I love this about this community, people are so eager to help. But sometimes I’ve personally found it really difficult to find how to help. It’s a problem I run into all the time, and I’ve become very good at managing it. Basically, it all just boils down to inspiring people and defining the tasks. I feel like I have a lot to say on this, and I’d love to work on it.

I have some other various ideas, but there’s one thing I will absolutely not compromise on: hearing the voices of everyone in the community. Whatever vision or plan I defined here, what really matters is that it ultimately benefits every alumnus. So, if you have new ideas, don’t keep them to yourself!

Why people should vote for me

I just graduated from the program, a.k.a. I'm eager to get stuff done. I'm super social, always happy to chat with anyone, and I strongly believe in the power of friendship. I'm always there to lighten the mood, but I'm also incredibly dependable.

That's my 3 sentence autobiography.

Friends also describe me as “that person you usually go to when you have any kind of problem”, and I’m very comfortable in that role. I like helping people!

I did say that “I’m eager to get stuff done”, and I do get stuff done. Efficiency is my middle name.

Still not convinced? I put my LinkedIn above, come say hi, if you feel like it :) or if you're around Madrid, let's meet!

Tell us more about your past experience and involvement with the EIT Digital Alumni

Just graduated as a Student Ambassador from the master school: organized an independent networking event /w support from EIT, mentored at the last 2 kick-offs, helped with countless presentations and webinars for the MSO, and helped organize the Quantum summer school in Nice last year. I also manage the EIT Digital Master School community discord server.

I've met the previous and current board and some fellow alumni... I got such awesome energy from them that here I am applying to the board :)
